The pineapple industry is currently facing problems of disposing of the crop residues obtained after harvests. This study shows how pineapple residues such as pineapple hearts (PH), peels (PP) and leaves (PL) could be treated to avoid environmental and social issues. The pineapple residues were: (i) collected from various points within EARTH University; (ii) pretreated to evaluate their physical-chemical properties; and (iii) treated using three independent processes (composting, anaerobic digestion, and pyrolysis). The results obtained from all the materials showed: (1) the composting treatment increased the nutrient content >0.047 mg/kg dry matter; (2) anaerobic digestion reduced the BOD:COD ratio by >20 %; and (3) pyrolysis produced (a) >30 ml of syngas per g of dry matter, and (b) >0.5 g biochar per g of dry matter. The study shows that the products and byproducts obtained after the treatments have very good potential in soil improvement and energy generation.
