Climate information is an important factor in guaranteeing food security. Such information helps small, medium and large farmers to make decisions regarding the management and planning of activities. However, access to localized climate information remains a problem in many parts of the world, as commercial weather stations are often considered expensive. This project is based on a "Do it yourself" approach, which consists of the prototyping, configuration and assembly of electronic components for localized climate information collection. In this context, a weather station based on an Arduino micro-controller has been developed to monitor the environmental variables: temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, amount of rainfall and altitude. The weather station data was compared with a commercial weather station. The results obtained from the Arduino-based weather station confirmed the feasibility of using it as a substitute for high-cost commercial sensor modules.
