Ítem Restringido Efficacy of biorational and chemical agents on the management of Diabrotica spp. in bean crop Phaseolus vulgaris L.(Universidad EARTH, 2019-12) Canto, Lisa Elora; Walter, Ndonkeu TitaThe efficacy of different biorational products and selected chemicals under an integrated pest management program for the control of Diabrotica spp. in bean crop Phaseolus vulgaris L. were evaluated. Kaolin-based formulations proved to be effective on the control of Diabrotica spp. both in the field and laboratory bioassays. A total of six treatments were formulated with the use of two synthetic insecticides; REGENT® 20 SC and ARRIVO® 25 EC, one plant-based extract; TRIACT 64 L, two entomopathogenic fungi mixtures; BEARDOX and CILLIUM and a kaolin product; SI-EARTH, each consisting of three replications. A control that did not receive any of the given formulations was also evaluated for comparison purposes. Significant differences (p<0.05) were obtained from both laboratory and field results with the exception of the average yield. Six insects per treatment were evaluated under laboratory conditions. The evaluation of deaths during the test periods showed best results with SI-EARTH + REGENT® 20 SC and SI-EARTH + ARRIVO® 25 EC treatments, both illustrating complete deaths within an hour. Entomopathogenic fungi treatments, SI-EARTH + BEARDOX and SI-EARTH + CILLIUM also showed positive results after an accumulative period of 264 hours with average deaths of 5.9 insects and 6 insects, respectively. For the field experiments, alive insect count and leaf defoliation levels were determined. SI-EARTH + REGENT® 20 SC and SI-EARTH + BEARDOX treatments illustrated best results for alive insect count posterior to application on week two, with an average of zero insect observed for both treatments. Final leaf defoliation analysis carried out on week nine illustrated best results with SI-EARTH + REGENT® 20 SC (1.3 %) and SI-EARTH + ARRIVO® 25 EC (2.1 %) treatments. Average yield results illustrated no significant difference (p<0.05) among treatments, with a p-value of 0.1621. A cost analysis evaluation among treatments illustrated lowest production cost with SI-EARTH + ARRIVO® 25 EC treatment giving a total of USD 420.05 per hectare for agrochemicals and seeds purchased. However, other treatments demonstrated similar values with production cost ranging from USD 400 to USD 500 per hectare.
