Beans consumption represents 65 % of the total protein consumed, 32 % of energy and a major source of micronutrients e.g., iron, zinc, thiamin and folic acid. As important as it is both in human and animal nutrition, beans have major insect pests that cause damage at the various stages of growth. Diabrotica virgifera is a major pest in bean production. While the adult pests are defoliators, the larvae inhabit the soil causing root injuries resulting in high losses in crop harvest. Biological control methods with Entomopathogenic fungi strains and Bt have been used in the management of the pest. In this investigation the effect of Beauveria bassiana, Lecanicillium lecanii, Metarrhizium anisopliae, and Bacillus thuringiensis on Diabrotica virgifera was determined in laboratory and field bioassays with the goal to determine the most effective treatment on the growth of beans and control of Diabrotica virgifera. Data collected in were analyzed at a p-value of 0.05 using the R-Software and the statistical tool package in Microsoft Excel. In the lab bioassay, treatments B. bassiana + B. thuringiensis, Mixture of all fungi, M. anisopliae + B. thuringiensis, Mixture of all fungi + B. thuringiensis were the most virulent with corresponding mortality rates of 100 %, 100 %, 97.6 % and 97.6 % respectively as compared to a mortality rate of 3.3 % for the control at fifteen days after treatment application. In the field assay, plant height, biomass production, total harvest and grain weights were higher in the B. bassiana + B. thuringiensis treatment and B. bassiana treatment.
