Ítem Restringido Development of a methodology for the study of water potential in plants using an arduino automatic irrigation system(Universidad EARTH, 2020-12) Castro, Lisbeth Daniela; Tzib, Dean Salvador; McLeod, Kent D.; Rodriguez, WarnerThe following project addresses the development of a methodology to determine the water potential in plants using an Arduino automation system. The main objective of this project is to develop an automatic irrigation system for the establishment of studies based on water potentials for tropical crops. A case study was conducted for two crops, watermelon and sweet chili, which were placed under a greenhouse with three treatments of moisture content that were established in the soil: T1 with a humidity that varied from 100 % to 90 % of field capacity (FC), T2 with a humidity of 60 % to 50 % of FC, and T3 with 30 % to 20 % of the humidity of FC, with TR1 being a repeated treatment of T1. The treatments were applied in gutter structures designed to promote healthy root development and the control of irrigated water. The case study presented several drawbacks related to the establishment of the crops and the effectiveness of the Arduino system for long-term projects due to the short useful life of several of its accessories. In addition, the Scholander chamber used for the measurement of the water potential presented several challenges since the dimensions of the components differed from the morphological characteristics of the crop.
