The present investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of the MaxiBeef hormone releasing atrial implant Estradiol Benzoate and Trenbolone acetate on weight gain in calves under a year that were kept under extensive grazing. 32 calves of dairy and meat breeds (16 controls and 16 with implants) with weights between 70 kg and 150 kg and with ages between 6 months and 11 months were used. The evaluation had a period of 90 days which is the estimated time hormones release in the calf; the calves were weighed on the day of implant application and at 90 days. No significant difference was found in weight gain between the control group and the implanted group, however, the animals with ages between 9 months and 11 months had a relatively higher weight gain than the animals with lower ages. Also, the calves with an inclination towards meat breeds had greater weight gains than those of dairy breeds, the highest daily weight gain was 1.05 kg / day.
