Synthetic polymers have been used in many industries, such as textiles, for the manufacture of plastics, or to release synthetic fiber. These polymers are derived from petroleum, so they have high durability and resistance. However, this same quality has become an environmental problem. As they are petroleum-based compounds, their lifetime is very long, so they last a long time in the environment. As there is a greater demand of these products, such as plastic bags. This start accumulating and end up in rivers and in the ocean, contaminating and damaging the balance of these ecosystems Natural fibers or biopolymers have many physical and mechanical proprieties like those desired in the synthetic polymers. This have high strength, durability and are abundant. Unlike these, biopolymers, being obtained from natural resources, it's degradation its easier than synthetic ones. This propriety makes them a viable alternative as a substitute for synthetic polymers or can even be used to complement a synthetic fiber.
