The present graduation project consists of developing a prototype of software with the name of StarMix planned to solve complex formulations of balanced foods at a minimum cost for animals. Programming is one of the most functional tools for formulation of food for livestock since it considers all the nutritional requirements that have to be covered with the balanced feed that is being made, as well as costs and inclusion levels of the raw materials. Visual Basic programming language was used as a general procedure or software engineering model, to develop the StarMix platform, applying the algorithm of cycle structure, decisions and simplex linear programming using the wxMáxima program as the main method for its resolution. The programming is based on the values of minimization, maximization and nutritional specification, it is formed by a Food Composition Database of the National Research Council (NRC), Animal Nutrition and Research Center (CINA), University of Costa Rica and the National Institute of Agronomic Research of France (INRA), are based on the data of the construction of the program. The results obtained were a program in its development phase, aimed for formulators, students and technicians in production, which allows them to continue developing it in the future to overcome the limitations of traditional manual methods such as: Pearson's square, simultaneous equations, matrices, trial and error or the use of high cost economic software. StarMix is a prototype of software that has planned the automation of the process of formulation of balanced for animals, it really contributes to improve the intuitive process of the formulators during the decision making, by providing a timely bibliographic information on animal nutrition.
