The challenge of agriculture is to recover or conserve soil fertility, looking for alternatives of non-destructive agricultural inputs. The objective of this research was to develop an organomineral fertilizer enriched with silicates and evaluate its effectiveness in the “gran enano” cultivar (Musa AAA). The study consisted of the preparation of organic (FO), organomineral (FOM) and mineral (FM) fertilizers, the evaluation of the fertilizer release curve, evaluation of the physical properties and storage capacity of the organomineral fertilizer. This also included the evaluation of the application of fertilizers in banana crops and their effect on root health as a function of microbial activity. The FO, FOM and FM were elaborated, with a formulation of 31-4-1-3 (CNPK), 13-6-3-9 (CNPK) and 15-15-24 (NPK) respectively. The FO and FOM in pellet form of high density and the FM in physical mixture in a granulometry of 2 mm. 3 treatments were established: FO: organic fertilizer in pellet form, FOM: organomineral fertilizer enriched with silicates, FM: mineral fertilizer (physical mixture). These treatments were evaluated in the laboratory and in the field. For the laboratory phase the FOM presented a stabilizing effect of pH and during the first four weeks it had better retention of ions, according to the electrical conductivity curve, and also indicated to be a controlled fertilizer releaser. The analysis of microbial activity and the root health index showed a correlation of 0.99, where the FOM was superior, because it provided a suitable balance of organic matter and minerals available for microorganisms and root development. The physical and storage tests of the FOM presented statistically the same resistance, firmness, and durability in the evaluation time for the humidity of 7.2%, 12.2% and 15.6%. In the field, the treatment that had the best effect with respect to the diameter of the pseudostem, the height of the plant and the emission of leaves in banana was FM, which was statistically different from FOM and FO at the end of the project.
