The research project was carried out in two sites located at the University EARTH of Costa Rica; in different times and conditions. The objective was to evaluate the preemergent effect of the application of a pine essential oil-based extract in the control of broad and narrow weeds, for which six different doses and a control were evaluated, each with six repetitions, evaluating their effect on germination through the coverage percentage of broad leafed and narrow in different days after application. The characterization of weeds which was undertaken showed that, for the first site of evaluation, P. fasciculatum and M. pudica were the dominant species at the beginning, and at the end of the research P. fasciculatum was remained the dominant specie; while in the second site the species that dominated at first was R. cochinchinensis, and in the final characterization P. fasciculatum was the dominant specie. The results showed that in the first evaluation site the extract in study did not show statistically significant differences between treatments, both in broad and narrow leaf, while in the second evaluation site was evident effect on several species of broadleafed weeds, using higher doses than the recommended (100 %, 150 % and 200 %).
