Existe poca información sobre el uso de mallas fotoselectivas en las condiciones tropicales húmedas. Con la finalidad de entender el efecto de las mallas fotoselectivas en estas condiciones, se realizó un experimento en Universidad EARTH, localizada en el caribe de Costa Rica. El experimento se estableció en Bloques Completamente al Azar en un arreglo factorial con cinco tratamientos y tres repeticiones. Los tratamientos fueron, las mallas fotoselectivas de color Perla y Rojo (en microtúneles) con 30 % y 50 % de filtración de luz y un testigo. Se sembró lechuga (Lactuca sativa cv. Lucy Brown) de 1 mes de edad, a una distancia de 0.20 m x 0.20 m. Se realizaron dos ciclos de cultivo de 28 días cada uno. Se evaluó la absorción de nutrientes, altura de planta, número de hojas, biomasa fresca y biomasa seca. El tratamiento que produjo la mayor biomasa fresca y biomasa seca fue el tratamiento con malla de color perla al 30 % de filtración de luz.

There is little information about the use of photo selective meshes in humid tropical conditions. In order to understand the effect of photo selective meshes in these conditions, an experiment has been done at EARTH University which located in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. The experiment was established in Completely Random Blocks in a factorial arrangement with five treatments and three repetitions. The treatments were, the photo selective meshes of Pearl and Red color (in micro tunnels) with 30% and 50% of light filtration and a witness. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa cv. Lucy Brown), a month old, was planted at a distance of 0.20 m x 0.20 m. The two cultivation cycles of 28 days each were carried out. The absorption of nutrients, plant height and number of leaves, fresh biomass and dry biomass was evaluated. The treatment that produced the highest fresh biomass and dry biomass was the treatment with pearl color mesh at 30 % light filtration.
